One person killed in single vehicle crash in Independence, police say

One person died after a vehicle crashed into a railroad bridge on Saturday afternoon, Independence police said.

Around 4:20 p.m., the driver of a 2012 Scion XB was heading west on 23rd Street — east of South Crysler Avenue — when the car collided with the railroad bridge. Police said it seems the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The driver died at a hospital.

Police are still investigating the crash.
