Power line across highway closes Interstate 35 in both directions near Liberty
A semi-truck carrying an oversized load pulled down a power line across Interstate 35 near Liberty on Saturday morning, city officials said, closing the highway in both directions and backing up traffic for miles.,
The power line, at I-35 and Missouri 291, just south of Glenn Hendren Drive, disabled traffic signals, the city reported at about 9:30 a.m.
Drivers were told to treat those signals as stop signs, the city said on social media.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with traffic, diverting northbound vehicles at Missouri 152.
Kansas City Scout showed significant traffic delays for more than six miles from Pleasant Valley north to Liberty.
Around 10:30 a.m., the city said Evergy had removed the power line and the roads were reopening.
