The driver of a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser was killed after being ejected from the SUV during a rollover crash Wednesday evening near Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, police said.

The crash occurred about 8:40 p.m. along 37th Terrace between Jackson Drive and Arrowhead Avenue, Sgt. Steven Boles, a spokesman for the Independence Police Department, said in a news release. The driver was the only person in the vehicle.

The driver was headed east on 37th Terrace when the SUV left the road just before Jackson Drive and overturned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of wreck, Boles said.

The identity of the driver was being withheld until police could notify family.

The crash remains under investigation.
