Man dies in kayak accident on Blue River in Overland Park on Friday evening

One man died in a Kayak accident on the Blue River in Overland Park on Friday evening, emergency officials said.

According to a news release issued by the Overland Park Fire Department, a man was reported missing around 6 p.m. after falling from the Kayak just east of 151st Street and Kenneth Road.

He and another man had been kayaking in the river when he fell from his boat at an obstruction at a bridge construction site, the other man told authorities.

The man’s body was found further down the river, in Kansas City, the release said. The Kansas City Missouri Police Department will investigate the death because of where the body was found.

Authorities did not release the man’s name pending notification of family.
