Westbound I-70 on east side of Kansas City’s downtown loop to close for the weekend
Traveling through downtown Kansas City will be a little tricky this weekend as transportation officials will close a portion of the east side of the freeway loop beginning Friday night, according to a release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
All lanes of westbound Interstate 70/northbound U.S. 71 will be closed from the south side to the north side of the downtown loop beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. The highway is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
The suggested detour around the construction is westbound Interstate 670 to northbound Intestate 35.
The closure is needed so that crews can complete sealing the bridge deck of the 10th Street Bridge over I-70/U.S. 71.
In addition to westbound I-70 being closed, drivers can expect the following closures:
▪ The ramp from eastbound I-670 to westbound I-70/northbound U.S. 71/northbound I-35.
▪ The ramp from 10th Street to westbound I-70/northbound U.S. 71/northbound I-35.
▪ The ramp from 11th Street to westbound I-70/northbound U.S. 71/northbound I-35.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time to go through the area because of potential delays. They can also check kcscout.net to see how traffic is impacted by the construction work.
