Man killed, woman wounded in shooting in front yard of Lee’s Summit home

A man was dead and a woman was injured after a shooting Wednesday afternoon in the front yard of a Lee’s Summit home, police said.

Police responded to the shooting around 4:30 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of SE Summit Avenue, according to Sgt. Chris Depue of the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

After the initial investigation, police said they think the man shot the woman and then shot himself. The woman’s injuries appeared to be minor, police said.

Police initially said they took a third person into custody but later clarified that they did not make an arrest.

Depue said police were interviewing witnesses to determine what led up to the shooting.
