Number of tickets KC police issued went up in these ‘high crash’ areas in February

Kansas City police officers wrote more tickets in February over the previous month in five areas that made the list of the city’s highest crash locations, according to data released at the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners’ meeting Tuesday.

These are the following areas where the number of tickets increased in February over January: Interstate 70 and Interstate 435 (11 percent increase), 75th Street and Bruce Watkins Drive (19 percent), Bannister Road and Interstate 435 (33 percent), 55th Street and Bruce Watkins Drive (71 percent) and Front Street and Interstate 35 (45 percent).

According to the data, inattention and rear-end impact are listed as the leading cause of accidents in those spots.

So far in 2020, a total of 2,959 crashes have been reported citywide, according to police. During this time last year, there were 3,807.
