Pedestrian seriously injured when hit by car while crossing Kansas City street

The driver of a car that struck and seriously injured a pedestrian over the weekend said she didn’t see the person crossing Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard prior to the crash, police said.

The crash occurred about 3:50 p.m. Saturday near Forest Avenue and Cleaver II. The pedestrian was crossing mid-block and was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, Kansas City police spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina said in an email.

The driver, who was in a white Nissan Altima, was headed west in the right lane when she noticed a black SUV headed in the same direction had stopped in the left lane.

The pedestrian was crossing the street from south to north. The driver told police she didn’t see the person until after she hit them, Becchina said. The driver was uninjured.
