Motorcyclist seen racing a Ford Mustang critically injured in crash in Kansas City

A motorcyclist who was reportedly racing a Ford Mustang was critically injured this weekend when he was thrown from his motorcycle during a collision with a car, police said.

The crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. Sunday near Anderson Avenue and Belmont Boulevard, Kansas City police Sgt. Jacob Becchina said in an email.

Witnesses told police that a black Suzuki motorcycle was “racing” with the Mustang south on Belmont. They were traveling at high speeds, Becchina said.

A green Chevy Cavalier that was headed east on Anderson had stopped at a stop sign. As the driver pulled away to turn onto northbound Belmont, the motorcycle crashed into the left side of the car, ejecting the rider.

The motorcyclist, who was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, was wearing a helmet, Becchina said.

The driver of the car was not injured. The Mustang didn’t stay at the scene.
