Crash downs power lines near Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village

A crash early Monday downed power lines near Shawnee Mission East High School, forcing police to close an intersection near the school, Prairie Village police said on Twitter.

Police announced on social media that the intersection at 75th Street and Mission Road was closed shortly after 4:30 a.m. because of the crash. They asked people to “avoid the area for the time being.”

In an update about three hours later, police said Evergy Inc. informed them that the intersection will be closed for several more hours while crews work to repair the downed lines.

“Barricades will be placed closing the intersection, however, SM East students will be able to access both school and parking lots,” police said on Twitter. “Please continue to avoid the area.”
