Driver killed, passenger injured in car crash early Sunday in Kansas City

One person was killed and another injured in a car wreck early Sunday morning in Kansas City, police said.

The crash occurred about 12:14 a.m. at 86th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

A silver Pontiac was traveling south on Blue Ridge at high speed when the driver lost control and the car went off the road to the left and hit a large tree, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to a hospital with injuries that police said did not appear to be life-threatening.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
