Hours before Super Bowl kickoff, more than 2,000 affected by power outages in KC-area

More than 2,000 customers were affected by an Evergy power outage Sunday afternoon in the Kansas City metro area, just hours before the Chiefs were set to take the field in the Super Bowl.

Evergy reported about 2,100 customers in Lee’s Summit were affected by the outages first reported before 3:15 p.m. The company estimated power there would be restored there by 7 p.m.

Another 30 customers were affected by outages in Overland Park that were first reported shortly after 3 p.m. Those outages were expected to be restored by 9:15 p.m.

The outages came hours before the Chiefs were set to take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.
