Police investigate jewelry store burglary in Overland Park
Police were investigating a jewelry store burglary Thursday morning near 119th Street and Roe Avenue.
The burglary was reported at the Tivol store at Hawthorne Plaza and happened sometime before 4 a.m. A grounds crew working in the area found a broken window and jewelry scattered across the lot, according to Officer John Lacy, an Overland Park Police Departments spokesman.
The burglars forced entry through a side window, Lacy said.
Police did not have a description of a suspect vehicle.
It’s not known how much was stolen. Online jewelry prices for the store with locations in Overland Park and on the Country Club Plaza show prices ranging from 14 karat gold earrings on sale for $40 to a platinum three stone diamond ring valued at $172,205.
In 2001, four men were convicted of robbing and fencing more than $2.5 million in jewelry taken from Tivol Jewels on the Plaza in 1997.
