Platte County reports first coronavirus-related death, a woman in her 70s

A woman in her 70s has died of COVID-19 in Platte County, health officials announced Wednesday, marking the first death from the coronavirus in the county.

The woman, who was in her 70s, tested positive for COVID-19 on May 7 and had underlying health conditions, according to the Platte County Health Department.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones,” Platte County Health Director Mary Jo Vernon said. “Our deepest sympathy is extended to her family and all who knew her.”

Missouri reported 11,232 cases of COVID-19 and 631 deaths on Wednesday across the state. Platte County, according to state numbers, has reported 60 cases.
