COVID-19 cases across KC metro exceed ​850 Tuesday; new deaths reported

The total number of new coronavirus cases in the Kansas City metropolitan area exceeded 850 confirmed cases Tuesday afternoon; 29 of those infected have died, according to data compiled by the Star.

That count includes data from health officials in Kansas City as well as Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Missouri health officials.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Kansas City health officials reported 234 cases and seven deaths within city limits.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported an additional 154 cases and one death in Jackson County, 37 cases and one death in Clay County and 17 cases in Platte County.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 219 cases in Johnson County and 192 cases in Wyandotte County. There have been 10 COVID-19 deaths in both Kansas counties, according to their local health departments.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases across Kansas City’s metro region to 853, an increase of 35 individuals from Monday.

In Kansas, Johnson and Wyandotte counties have reported the highest number of people to test positive for COVID-19 across all the state’s 105 counties. Kansas health officials have reported 900 cases and 27 deaths as of Tuesday.

In Missouri, St. Louis County recorded the highest number of infections with 1,602 cases and 20 deaths. Officials on Tuesday reported 3,037 cases and 53 deaths across the state.

Missouri has tested around 31,650 people, more than three times as many people as Kansas.

Nationwide, there were more than 386,800 cases and nearly 12,300 deaths as of Tuesday afternoon, according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University. Worldwide, there were more than 1,413,400 cases and 81,200 deaths.
