Kansas officials report 55 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more deaths Tuesday
Nine hundred cases of the new coronavirus have now been confirmed across more than half of Kansas’s counties, state officials announced Tuesday.
The total confirmed cases increased by 55 on Tuesday and deaths increased by two, according to state data compiled by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Nearly 100 new cases were announced the day prior.
As of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the state’s health department reported 27 total deaths related to COVID-19. Cases have been confirmed in 57 of the 105 counties.
Johnson and Wyandotte counties continue to see the highest number of cases in the state, with 219 and 192, respectively. Other counties totaling the largest confirmed cases: 134 in Sedgwick County (Wichita), 43 in Leavenworth County and 43 in Shawnee County (Topeka).
About one-third of the state’s confirmed cases have led to hospitalization, according to state data. About 491 of the infected are female while 406 are male.
The average age of Kansans confirmed to have the virus is 55, with the youngest being an infant and the oldest 97, according to state data.
Of those infected, 677 people were tested at private labs while 223 were tested by Kansas officials, state officials said. An additional 8,614 people were tested, but their results came back negative.
Across the state line, Missouri reported 2,367 cases and 34 deaths as of Monday afternoon, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Early in the week, Missouri had reported about three times as many cases as Kansas, but had also tested about three times as many people.
Nationwide, there were more than 379,900 cases and 11,850 deaths as of early Tuesday afternoon, according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University. Worldwide, there were more than 1,390,500 cases and nearly 79,100 deaths.
