Kansas reaches 620 confirmed coronavirus cases so far, with 17 deaths

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases reported on Friday in Kansas has reached 620, which is a 12% increase from the previous day, according to statistics released Friday afternoon by state health officials.

Three more people in Johnson County have died from the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths in the state related to outbreak to 17, health officials said.

Deaths have been reported in Johnson, Wyandotte, Sedgewick, Coffey, Shawnee and Crawford counties.

On Thursday, the number of cases identified across Kansas grew to 552. That was an increase from 368 at the beginning of the week. The oldest person that has tested positive is 100.

State officials reported that 151 persons have been hospitalized. Women continue to outpace the number of men who have tested positive for coronavirus, officials reported.

Johnson County has the most confirmed cases with 172, followed by Wyandotte County with 131 confirmed cases. The largest increase in confirmed cases statewide was reported on Wednesday when Kansas health officials reported 73 new diagnosed cases.

A statewide stay at home order remains in effect for Kansas.

Nationally, the number of coronavirus continue to climb. On Friday afternoon, there were 258,214 confirmed cases with 6,605 reported deaths, according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University.
