Cass County reports first death from coronavirus, bringing Missouri total to 18

Cass County reported its first death from the coronavirus Wednesday.

The woman who died was a Belton resident in her early 70s. She tested positive for COVID-19 on March 20, the Cass County Health Department said.

The health department learned of the death on Tuesday. It was Missouri’s 18th reported death.

The woman had underlying health conditions, according to the department, and the case was not travel-related.

Older adults and those with underlying medical conditions are believed to be at higher risk of complications from COVID-19.

Missouri has reported at least 1,581 cases, according to numbers released Wednesday by state officials.
