More people test positive for COVID-19 in Johnson County, bringing total to 108
More than 100 people have now tested positive for the new coronavirus in Johnson County, bringing the total in Kansas to more than 320, health officials said Sunday.
Of the 108 people who have fallen ill in Johnson County, one is under the age of 19 and nine are between the ages of 80 and 89, according to the county Department of Health and Environment.
Johnson County continued to report the most cases in the state. More than 1,000 people have tested negative for COVID-19 there.
Wyandotte County reported 55 people testing positive for the virus. Leavenworth County reported 17 and Douglas County reported 23.
The number of positive cases statewide was an increase of more than 20 percent from Saturday when the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 261 cases.
Of those testing positive for the virus, at least 55 have been hospitalized. Four people in Wyandotte County and two people in Johnson County have died.
With about 320 positive tests and more than 4,900 negatives, people in Kansas were testing positive at a rate of about 6 percent, as they had in recent days. More cases are expected to be found as more people are tested.
As of Sunday, more than 900 people in Missouri had tested positive for the new virus. Twelve people in the state have died.
Deaths across America topped 2,400 on Sunday, according to data from John Hopkins University. More than 130,000 people in the U.S. have contracted the virus — the most of any country. There were more than 700,000 cases and 33,000 deaths worldwide.
