More coronavirus cases found in Kansas, in Johnson and Wyandotte counties
Nine more cases of the new coronavirus were reported Tuesday in Wyandotte and Johnson Counties.
The two counties have reported more cases of COVID-19 then the rest of Kansas and the state’s only two deaths from it.
Cases in Wyandotte County rose overnight from 16 to 21 cases. Johnson County confirmed four additional cases Tuesday morning bringing its total to 36.
The counties account for more than half of Kansas’ 92 presumed positive cases of the rapidly spreading virus. More cases are expected to be found as more people are tested.
The numbers in the area continued to rise as both counties entered into a stay-at-home order Tuesday closing all nonessential businesses and directing residents to keep to stay in if they are not doing something essential for the health of themselves or their loved ones.
The order, which was announced Saturday, went into effect just after midnight Tuesday morning.
Such orders have been adopted by states and local authorities across the United States in an attempt to slow the spread of the new coronavirus which has now infected more than 46,000 people nationwide.
Missouri health officials have confirmed 183 COVID-19 cases in the state.
