Coffee shop that highlights local creatives opens in KC’s Garment District
The Garment District’s newest coffee shop, Artifact Coffee & Goods was buzzing Monday. Customers were consistently trickling through the doors; the brick shop features large windows and warm earthy colors, tucked just inside the SoHo Lofts Condominiums.
All the tables were filled, and the pastries sold out by 10 a.m., according to co-owner Marlee Ogden.
Ogden and Zack Scott, both 23-years-old, took over the old Vested Coffee location at 310 W. Eighth Street. The new shop serves coffee while highlighting goods made by local artists and businesses.
“We love being able to highlight other creatives in the community and give them a space to be discovered,” Ogden previously told The Star via email. “Our goal is to create a space that feels intentional but still approachable, where people can slow down, enjoy a thoughtfully made drink, and find something meaningful to take home.”
All the drinks served at Artifact Coffee & Goods are made with plant milk. It offers a selection of hot and cold drinks like espresso, Americano, matcha, teas, latte, cold brew and house-shaken espresso +milk. Drinks range from $3.50 to $7.50. Pastries offered at the shop are sourced from Scratch KC and Cookie Diero.
The business originally began as a small-batch candle under the name No Trace 2024. Ogden and Scott began to craft a different vision for the business under the name Artifact: one that involved coffee, art and other local products. Many of the creators featured in the shop have had worked with the co-owners for some time, but Ogden said they are also accepting applications for new creators.
Artifact Coffee & Goods is open Wednesday through Monday from 7 to 2 p.m.
