Something new is moving into this former Kansas City coffee shop
After beloved KC coffee shop Vested Coffee closed its downtown location, something else will be taking over the space.
A new shop called Artifact Coffee & Goods will open in the Garment District space at 310 W. Eighth Street.
Run by 23-year-old co-owners Marlee Ogden and Zack Scott, Artifact will primarily be a coffee shop but will offer a selection of goods from local makers and businesses.
“We love being able to highlight other creatives in the community and give them a space to be discovered,” Ogden told The Star via email. “Our goal is to create a space that feels intentional but still approachable, where people can slow down, enjoy a thoughtfully made drink, and find something meaningful to take home.”
The shop is still in the build-out phase but aims to open in the next couple of months.
The business began as a small-batch candle under the name No Trace 2024. Ogden and Scott began to craft a different vision for the business under the name Artifact: one that involved coffee, art and other local products.
“Opening a physical space felt like a natural next step, especially as a way to continue supporting local artists through wholesale partnerships and in-store displays,” Ogden said. “As artists ourselves, that support has always been an important part of what we do.”
Vested, on the other hand, opened in 2019. Susan and Nolan Dees started with the Garment District spot but opened the Beacon Hill location a year later.
Both have since closed. Two Sugars opened its second location in the Beacon Hill spot at 2501 Troost Ave.
