New concept will take space of beloved Waldo eatery that shut down in KC
A new Asian restaurant is taking the space of a locally beloved Waldo eatery.
The new concept will be inside what was formerly Waldo Thai at 8431 Wornall Road. It will be a counter-service restaurant that also have related snacks and candy, according to permit filings.
No name was listed yet for the business, but the application came from Savor Strategy Group LLC, which was created earlier this year.
Waldo Thai announced in October it would be closing for an unknown period of time. Scott Keithly, the restaurant’s chief financial officer, previously declined to answer follow-up questions about the future of the restaurant or the circumstances around the closure.
The move came months after longtime chef Pam Liberda and her husband, general manager Ted Liberda announced they would be leaving in May 2025. He and his wife had been there from the restaurant’s inception in 2018.
Keithly said at the time the business would continue operating with a new chef, countering a statement from Liberda.
The Liberdas own Buck Tui BBQ at 6737 W. 75th St. in Overland Park and MuNi at 316 Delaware St.
