Johnson County brunch restaurant closes. It’s the last location in the KC area
After its Kansas City-area locations temporarily closed, then reopened, brunch chain Another Broken Egg has officially exited the metro.
The company shuttered its only remaining spot within the past few weeks. Signs on the door at 13386 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park advised customers that it had permanently closed.
“We hope to serve you at another one of our locations soon,” the signs read.
Another Broken Egg could not be immediately reached for comment Wednesday.
At one point, the Florida-based brunch chain had two locations in the area: the Overland Park spot, and another at 5358 W. 95th St. in Prairie Village.
In late 2023, the Florida-based brunch restaurant temporarily closed the Overland Park spot, then reopened it under new management.
Then, in January 2024, the Prairie Village spot closed also temporarily. It, too, reopened under new ownership a few months later. But the Meadowbrook-area location served its final meal in September.
At the time, the company said it decided to close the spot after a “strategic assessment of the restaurant’s operations.”
“While we are saddened by the Prairie Village location closing, we deeply appreciate the tremendous support Another Broken Egg Cafe has received from the community and the opportunity it has had to serve those in Prairie Village over the years,” the company said.
Another Broken Egg still has dozens of locations across several states, including Texas, Virginia, Arizona, Ohio and beyond.
It serves breakfast, brunch and lunch items, including Benedict burgers, chocolate-stuffed waffles and its popular cinnamon roll French toast.
It still has one location in Wichita.
Meanwhile, brunch restaurants like First Watch and Urban Egg are expanding.
First Watch now has nearly a dozen locations across the metro, including several in Johnson County. Colorado-based Urban Egg, meanwhile, just opened its second spot in the metro.
But Kansas City native and owner Randy Price isn’t stopping with the new Northland spot. He’s planning a location in the Lenexa City Center development, set to open later this year. He hopes to open several more in the area.
