Popular clothing store looks to be closing location on KC’s Country Club Plaza

A popular clothing brand owned by J. Crew and targeted toward young women appears to be closing one of its locations in the metro.

Madewell is reportedly shuttering its spot on the Country Club Plaza at 309 Nichols Road.

While Madewell did not yet respond to The Star’s request for a statement Tuesday, both a customer service representative with the company and an employee at the store told The Star the location would close at the end of the month.

A spokeswoman with the Plaza said she could not comment on whether the store would soon close.

Parent company J. Crew Group LLC’s brands include J. Crew, J. Crew Factory and Madewell.

Store employees at Madewell’s Leawood location told The Star on Tuesday that the Town Center Plaza spot at 5076 W. 119th St. will remain open.

Days ago, Nickel & Suede closed its location on the Plaza at 232 Nichols Road.

Meanwhile, several other brands are set to debut on the Plaza in the coming months, including a popup of LoveShackFancy and Italian restaurant Vertice.
