A Korean chicken chain is opening its first restaurant in the Kansas City area.

Nebraska-based Chick Bo-Bao is opening a spot at 10143 Wornall Road, in the former home of Dunkin’ Donuts.

When the spot near State Line opens around February or March, it will serve fried chicken wings, spicy chicken sandwiches, mochi doughnuts, corn dogs, kimchi fried rice, boba and more. The space has a drive-thru as well as some interior seating.

Coltin Diehl with Block & Co. Inc., Realtors represented Chick Bo-Bao in the deal. This will be the restaurant’s third location, with two in Omaha.

The first location launched late last year.

Owner Geng Lin said in a written statement to The Star that he’s looking forward to opening the restaurant’s first Missouri location.

“I love sharing delicious, comforting food with others,” Lin said. “Bo Bao is flavorful, satisfying, and fun to eat, and I believe more people should experience it.”

Korean fried chicken is considered a crispier, flakier product than the American version due to its double-fry method and thin batter.

A few other Korean chicken places have popped up around the metro in recent years. Last January, 1981 K-Chicken opened at 10412 Mastin St. in Overland Park, replacing Steve’s Villa Capri.

Other Overland Park Korean fried chicken spots include 92 Chicken at 10324 Metcalf Ave., and CM Chicken at 6601 W. 135th St.
