New Mexican restaurant opens in downtown Kansas City: tacos, birria, more

A Kansas City Mexican eatery, once a ghost kitchen, is opening its first brick and mortar spot.

Streats, known for its street tacos, birria tacos and ramen, has landed a downtown Kansas City location.

The restaurant is now open inside the high-rise at 1111 Main St. It’s taken over the ground-floor spot formerly home to KC Mac ‘N Co.

The building Streats calls home is one of two office tours referred to as the Skyline Collection. Other restaurants housed in both include Jason’s Deli, Banksia and Fat Bee Cafe.

“We’re thrilled to bring Streats to the Skyline Collection,” Ashton Shelby and Tony Gordon, founders of Streats, said in a press release. “We love being part of the fabric of Kansas City, and we’re excited to expand into downtown to serve the business community and visitors alike with the bold flavors we’re known for.”

On its menu: birria ramen, shrimp quesabirria tacos, birria tacos with consomme to dip, and more.

Before opening the spot, Streats held a space in the Crossroads Food Stop. The ghost kitchen hosted several other eateries before it closed this summer.

Artisan mac and cheese restaurant KC Mac ‘N Co. opened in the Parlor food hall in 2021, moving to the Skyline Collection two years later.

The business has been closed for several months. It does not appear to be operating elsewhere.
