Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have spent the past few years amassing Super Bowl rings.

But it appears the pair thinks it’s time for a new challenge. The next honor they’re hoping to win? Best steakhouse in Kansas City.

The famous pals are now looking at a late summer opening for their upcoming restaurant, 1587 Prime inside the Loews Hotel at 1500 Baltimore Ave. A walk-through of the space Tuesday revealed a partially built-out restaurant full of stone detailing and gold accents.

“We’re just trying to bring something fun and exciting and put our stamp on it,” said Sacha Tanha, director of hospitality for Noble 33, the Chiefs stars’ partner in the restaurant. “Hopefully people like it.”

In case readers haven’t clued in yet, the steakhouse is named after Mahomes’ and Kelce’s jersey numbers, 15 and 87, respectively.

The 10,000 square-foot restaurant spans two floors.

Guests enter the glitzy space through the exterior entrance off the corner of Truman Road and Baltimore Avenue. Tanha of Noble 33 said the elongated entrance was built to mimic a stadium tunnel.

(Diners will notice a few more subtle nods to sports, including a woven leather accent that’s reminiscent of footballs.)

On the downstairs level, a stage for a small band sits on one side. Tanha said they’ll be plucking soulful, R&B tunes. On the other side, a bar with a tall, glowing wine display.

Up a spiral stone staircase, diners will find an open kitchen and spacious seating area with panoramic views of the city.

“It’s incredibly sexy,” Tanha said.

The restaurant will seat nearly 240 between both levels.

Tanha said Mahomes and Kelce specifically requested a private dining room with a discreet entrance. Rather than going in the front door, friends and family members of Chiefs players will go in through the hotel and directly into the hidden room with one-way glass.

Gold light fixtures and chandeliers hang from the ceiling — though most were shrouded in plastic wrap at the tour Tuesday.

Las Vegas-based hospitality group Noble 33 will head up the restaurant. It has destination spots in several other major cities, like Toca Madera (Las Vegas, West Hollywood, Scottsdale, Arizona), Casa Madera (West Hollywood, Toronto), Sparrow Italia (London, Miami) and Meduza Mediterrania (New York City).

1587 Prime was born through Tanha’s friendship with the pair.

Tanha said he first met Mahomes in 2018 after he dined at Toca Madera in West Hollywood. Both Mahomes and Kelce dined at other Noble 33 concepts.

Tanha eventually brought up the idea of starting a restaurant with the two.

“They both were immediately like, ‘We would love to have something in Kansas City,’” he said. “They both thought a steakhouse would probably make the most sense.”

Tanha said Mahomes and Kelce both walked through the space a few weeks ago.

“I honestly got excited about how excited they were,” he said.

While the restaurant doesn’t have an exact menu yet, Tanha said they’re hoping to offer items beyond typical steakhouse offerings.

“It’s gonna have the modern, Noble 33 twists that we do,” he said.

Neither Mahomes nor Kelce are strangers to food and beverage partnerships. The pair are both investors in “eatertainment” concept Chicken N Pickle, which has two locations in the Kansas City metro.

Mahomes is co-owner of Whataburger franchise KMO Burger, which brought his favorite fast food chain hailing from Texas to the metro.

Kelce is an investor in Casa Azul tequila sodas. He and his brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, own light beer brand Garage Beer.

Will Kelce’s pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift make an appearance at 1587 Prime? Kansas City Swifties certainly hope so, and Tanha hinted at the possibility Tuesday.

“She’s expressed excitement to come.”

The couple has made the rounds of several KC area restaurants, including steakhouses. In October 2023, the Swift and Kelce chowed down on the mahi-mahi at Argentine restaurant Piropos, known for its grilled meats. Kelce also enjoyed a birthday dinner of porterhouse steak sans Swift that same month at The Golden Ox.
