Landlocked Kansas Citians will soon be able to party at the beach (or at least feel like they are).

High-end, Florida-born restaurant and lounge Palm Tree Club is coming to Kansas City’s Power & Light District.

The spot — co-founded by Norwegian DJ Kygo — promises elevated dining, drinks and music acts in a tropical atmosphere. And, it’s anything like the other locations, it may even prompt a celebrity appearance or two.

Myles Shear, the other founder of the club, described the concept as “laidback luxury.”

“One thing that we’ve always done is really, really cool signature cocktails that we thrive on,” he said. “And making it a fun, outgoing experience.”

The new spot will be Palm Tree Club’s fourth location. Its first two opened in Orlando and Miami last year. About a month ago, it opened another location in Las Vegas — a debut attended by Sydney Sweeney, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Machine Gun Kelly, among other celebrities.

Once the Kansas City club debuts in the fall, it’ll take over the 11,000-square-foot, two-level space at 14 E. 14th St., formerly home to Drunken Fish.

The space will have a full restaurant, open-air rooftop and private dining room. Greenery and an audiovisual system aim to immerse partygoers in a tropical atmosphere.

“This is gonna be one of the nicer ones we’ve built out, which is exciting,” Shears said.

What Kansas City can expect

Other club features: a DJ booth, VIP seating area, and a seating area that can be converted into a dance floor.

A 100-inch television will be mounted on the rooftop deck.

Visitors can look forward to music acts, potentially even sightings of other superstars.

Some of the big names that have visited or performed at the other locations: Jake Shane, Alix Earle, The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, and Tiësto.

Earle’s margarita brand, SipMARGS, hosted a launch party at the Miami club in March.

In December, The Miami Herald reported that Leonardo DiCaprio and Ivanka Trump visited the Miami location separately attending the same party.

“I think that’s just part of our DNA,” he said. “We definitely want to activate and bring top tier talent to Kansas City.”

Food items on the coastal-inspired menu include wagyu dumplings, sushi and nigiri, black truffle pizza, hand-made pasta and several desserts.

As for drinks, the club will have offer the Gold-dusted Cristalino Margarita, Caviar Martini, Signature Smoked Old Fashioned and more.

Why choose Kansas City?

While Kansas City might seem like an unlikely choice for a luxury beach club, but Palm Tree Club already has connections to the Kansas City Live! entertainment district. The nightlife-heavy district, known for holding watch parties for major sporting events, had more than 6 million visitors in 2023 and is operated by Cordish Companies.

The same company operates the Live! at the Pointe Orlando district, where the original Palm Tree Club resides.

Plus, Shear said he sees exciting things happening in Kansas City that are putting it on the map.

“It’s a place that deserves more, and we could be the ones to bring that,” he said.

He cited the upcoming 1587 Prime restaurant, opening sometime this summer from Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, as one noteworthy development.

“Also, I need some football players, too, there,” Shear said with a laugh. “Football’s been popping in Kansas City. That’s definitely part of the strategy.”

Last fall, Cordish announced a $10 million makeover for Kansas City Live! in the Power & Light District, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. That upgrade includes expanding the Mosaic nightclub and a new Latin restaurant and bar, Besos y Abrazos.

Soon, tropical resort hotel Margaritaville will open near the Legends Outlets Kansas City. It’s expected to drop this summer.
