Officials announced Thursday that the Cordish Companies is investing $10 million to renovate the Kansas City Live! downtown entertainment district.

Updates will include new outdoor audio-visual displays and ceiling heaters, an expansion to the Mosaic nightclub and a new Latin-inspired venue with music, food and drinks.

Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed ahead of the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament in March 2025, which will be hosted at the nearby T-Mobile Center in mid-March, according to a news release. Kansas City Live! will remain open during construction.

“We’re passionate about improving our community, and the Power & Light District’s continued investment in downtown KC will help us tell our local story on a global stage as the eyes of the world shift to KC during the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” John Moncke, president of the Power & Light District, said at a news conference.

Among the upgrades underway:

  • Besos y Abrazos, a new dining and entertainment venue opening in spring 2025, which will feature various cocktails like margaritas and tropical rum drinks, dishes like Cuban steak tacos and Brazilian cheese bread, and DJ-spun music.

  • A $2.5 million expansion of the Mosaic nightclub, with a new music and visual system, remodeled patio and a VIP lounge.

  • Upgrades to the Kansas City Live! block that will include ceiling heaters and misters, ribbon screens, new lighting and expanded seating.

Moncke said Kansas City Live! had more than 6 million visitors in 2023. The Power & Light District began construction in 2004 and new housing and entertainment developments continue to pop up downtown, drawing major events and millions of visitors.
