Openings & Closings

Another local shop is closing on KC’s Plaza, citing changes and thinning crowds

Razzleberry has closed after four years on the Country Club Plaza.

The boutique opened in 2021 at 421 W. 47th St. after relocating from downtown Overland Park, where it had been since 2017.

“The Plaza has changed — new ownership, slower foot traffic, fewer small businesses — but we’re moving forward with full hearts,” owner Amy Bringenberg said on Instagram.

The shop sells locally themed shirts, stickers, coasters, mugs, and other gifts. It continues to sell online and at other metro-area vendor hubs like Queen Bee Boutiques & The Vintage Bee in Blue Springs.

At least 11 other restaurant and retail spots have closed their Country Club Plaza locations since the start of 2024. That list includes Parachute, Express, Forever 21, Kindred, Soft Surroundings, Casper and Claire’s.

Dallas-based Highland Park Village Partners purchased the Plaza in July, promising major improvements to the shopping district. But progress has been slow.

“It’s really hard for us to drive traffic when we have no neighbors who are bringing in traffic,” one Plaza retailer recently told The Star.
