Two new restaurants are opening back-to-back in the growing Merriam Grand Station development this month.

Wichita-based breakfast spot HomeGrown is opening its new restaurant April 21 at 8807 Shawnee Mission Parkway, according to the company.

Then, Iowa-based 30hop will open its bar and grill next door at 8715 Shawnee Mission Parkway on April 30. The brand announced its opening date in a social media post.

The restaurants join tenants like Cava and Starbucks at the $137 million mixed-use development, which includes two four-story apartment buildings called the Grand Station Lofts.

Before the site was redeveloped by Overland Park-based Drake Development, it was home to a former Kmart, which closed in 2013. In 2022, the city approved the developer’s plans to turn the area into restaurant, retail and apartment space.

HomeGrown has four other locations in the Kansas City area: 101 E 13th St., 338 W. 63rd St., 11705 Roe Ave. in Leawood, and 201 S Stewart Road in Liberty. Menu items include cinnamon swirl French toast, coffeecake, baked oatmeal, veggie lover omelets and more.

The Merriam location will be 30hop’s second spot in the metro. In January, the bar and grill opened in Lee’s Summit as part of The Streets of West Pryor district at 1020 NW Pryor Road, Suite G.

Its menu favorites include the barbecue mac and cheese, baja fish tacos, ahi poke bowls, truffle fries, and a variety of burgers and brews.
