Pleasant Hill Creamery — an American restaurant and ice cream shop — has closed indefinitely after eight years.

Owner Dan Bucher said he’s not sure if the closure is permanent, but the rising costs of his supplies have made it almost impossible to operate.

“Food costs are outrageous. It’s every week that something is going up,” Bucher said. “It’s getting tougher and tougher, especially for small businesses.”

Bucher said ice cream costs have nearly doubled since 2017.

The recent poor weather has put an even greater strain on the business. The Pleasant Hill restaurant, 1504 MO-7, has had to close several days in the past month because of the temperature, ice and snow.

While questions surround the future of the business, Bucher said he’s confident closing is the right decision for right now.

“It’s a sad day,” he said.

Before the restaurant closed, it served ice cream, steak, hamburgers, baked potatoes and other American dishes.

His restaurant announced the closure on its social media pages Wednesday.

“With heartfelt gratitude I would like to thank all the loyal patrons and dedicated staff that have kept us going for the last 8 years!” the post said.

Floods of customers expressed their support.

“Noooooo! Our favorite place for chicken fried steak!” one user commented.

“I drove all the way from OP for those shoestring fries!” another said.

Bucher also owns Tex-Mex restaurant Pomme de Ritas in Hermitage.
