Double Shift Brewing Co. is closing in Kansas City after 10 years.

A “for lease” sign hangs on the outside of the brick building at 412 E. 18th St. A manager with the brewery told The Star it was closing down March 17, though ownership did not respond to requests for comment.

Beer-loving Leawood firefighter Aaron Ogilvie opened the brewery in 2015, along with Mike Pollock, Paul Stark, Scott Ogilvie, and Rick and Joan Redhair.

It lives in a brewery-heavy section of the Crossroads dubbed Brewer’s Alley, neighboring Nimble Brewing, Casual Animal Brewing, Border Brewing Co. and more.

Double Shift also serves hard teas, ciders, seltzers and wines.

In 2023, Double Shift was purchased by Pat Mitchell, founder and owner of Red Sash, which had been next to Double Shift at 406 E. 18th St. since 2021.

Red Sash closed about a year ago.

The good news for the Crossroads: BKS Artisan Ales is expanding, opening a spot at 1701 McGee St., Suite 400.

Owner Mary Rooney said they aim to open that spot in the summer.
