Popular Kansas City nightlife district gets frozen cocktail bar. Here’s what’s on tap
Frost Frozen Drinks is now open in Westport.
The frozen cocktail bar has taken over the former Julep space at 4141 Pennsylvania Ave., Suite 101. Julep closed in 2023 after nine years at the location. Frost officially opened on Halloween.
At the core of Frost’s menu is a rotating list of 12 frozen cocktails. Options include the Citrus Freeze (lemon, lime, gin; $13), Royals Rush (Coconut Berry Red Bull, rum; $13), and Frozen Mimosa (prosecco, cranberry juice; $13).
The 20-ounce frozen drinks can be taken to go or ordered through delivery apps like DoorDash. Beer, seltzers, wine, non-frozen cocktails and mocktails are available for those who stick around. Frost has a handful of snacks (popcorn, mixed nuts, frosted cannoli crunch) for $3-5, but customers are welcome to bring in food from neighboring restaurants.
Inside, some remnants of the Julep design remain, like the turquoise banquettes, swinging ladder behind the bar and the garage doors that open out onto Archibald Avenue. Tropical-print chairs now sit around tables topped with board games like Scattergories and Trivial Pursuit.
The 140-occupancy space includes the cozy Flamingo Room up front, which can be reserved for up to 12 guests, and the Chill Zone in the back, for private events.
The bar is owned by Chris Rainbolt, Tommy Mueller and Jim Baxter, whose backgrounds are a mix of real estate and hospitality. The ownership team also owns the space next door, which was formerly the self-care shop Becoming, and plan to open a pop-up bar experiences there in the future.
Hours for now are 11 a.m. to midnight daily.
“We’ve been seeing a lot of people stop in before the other bars around here open,” said general manager Ali Crownover.
