Apparel, decor, self-care: New Westport shop wants to help you ‘live your best life’
Like many, Keely Edgington said she was “so woefully unprepared for the pandemic.”
She leaned on meditation, spending time outside and other self-care techniques.
“We are not machines, and it is OK to take moments for ourselves,” she said. “I have a pretty extensive bath routine. I get a good book, put in my bath salts, might have a mediation going on in the background. This just grounded me and made me feel safe and present.”
Now she has opened a new Westport store, Becoming, 4141 Pennsylvania Ave., Suite 101, selling those items and more.
It has candles, crystals, blankets, bath bombs, a facial massage tool, teas and ritual oils. There’s some apparel, jewelry such as snake rings and decor including a hook pillow featuring the Eye of Providence symbol. It also has books including “The Witch’s Book of Self- Care.” Prices range from $2 to $160.
She’s still waiting on about 30% of her inventory due to shipping delays.
“It’s a store that touches every area of your life, at least it is meant to,” she said. “It can be your home, stuff for your soul, stuff for your body, so you can live your best life.”
She had worked at Nordstrom while earning her master’s in art history from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2008.
Edgington also is a partner in Julep cocktail bar, just around the corner in Suite 104, as well as Canary bar and bistro in midtown. But she now plans to concentrate on the retail shop, while her husband, Beau Williams, operates the restaurants and bars.
The Becoming name reflects that we are always evolving, she said.
“You are going to be a lot of things in life if you want to be,” she said. “You don’t have to be just one thing.”
