Mochinut, which made its Kansas City area debut in Overland Park in May, is already planning a follow-up.

The California-based doughnut chain says it will open a second location in October at Zona Rosa, the mixed-use shopping center near Interstate 29 and Barry Road in Kansas City’s Northland.

The address is 8610 N.W. Prairie View Road, next door to Anejo Modern Mexican Cuisine.

Mochinut’s main draw is its mochi doughnuts, which originated in Hawaii and fuse American doughnuts with Japanese mochi, a sticky rice cake. Flavors include yuzu, milk pebble, pistachio, mango and banana milk.

The chain also serves Korean corn dogs coated with flavors like Hot Cheetos, crispy ramen and crunchy potatoes.

The Zona Rosa location is owned by Angelo and Ahram Santos.

Mochi doughnuts are growing in popularity in the Kansas City area. In addition to the other Mochinut at 7414 W. 119th St. in Overland Park, the Asian treats are available at Black Hole Bakery (5531 Troost Ave.), Oki Mochi in Blue Springs (1857 Missouri Route 7) and Bobaly Mochi in Independence Center.
