Zona Rosa Shopping Center is getting a new pizzeria.

Chef Christian Joseph of Plate Restaurant Group, which operates the modern Italian restaurants Plate in Brookside and Leawood, plans to open Plate Pizzeria at 8630 N.W. Prairie View Road next spring.

The 2,400-square-foot space was formerly home to Stone Canyon Pizza, which closed its Zona Rosa location in 2019 and relocated to Gladstone. (Stone Canyon also has a location in downtown Parkville.)

The pizza will be Neapolitan-style, Joseph said in a release.

“We are excited to introduce a new culinary standard to the area and provide an authentic Italian experience from pizza and gelato to espresso and wine right in the heart of the Northland,” Joseph said.

Joseph opened Plate in 2015 at 62nd and Oak streets in Brookside, serving house-made pastas and entrees like pork Milanese and pollo Toscana. Two years later, a fire ripped through the building and the restaurant closed. It reopened in 2019 a few blocks away at 701 E. 63rd St., in the former Cleveland Chiropractic building. Plate added another location, at 11655 Ash St. in Leawood’s Park Place, in 2022.
