Wings in mango sauce, grilled mahimahi. JoCo Mexican restaurant opening in Kansas City
Añejo Modern Mexican Cuisine opened just over a year ago in Olathe.
Now it is adding a location in Kansas City’s Northland.
It plans a mid-to-late April opening in the former Bar Louie space in Zona Rosa, 8600 N.W. Prairie View Road.
The menu includes wings with sweet spicy house-made mango sauce, and Angel’s Favorite (grilled mahimahi and shrimp with vegetables on Mexican rice, smothered with white cheese dip and special sauce).
It also has tortilla soup, carnitas, shrimp ceviche, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas, Mexican hamburgers (with guacamole, grilled onions and jalapenos), flan and pineapple coconut fried ice cream. It often adds new food and drink items.
Weekday lunch specials include a beef burrito covered in red chili sauce, a crispy taco, Mexican rice and beans for $12.29; chicken fajitas for $15.29; and chile verde with Mexican rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and a choice of tortillas for $14.29.
Jaquelinne Ortiz and her father, Angel Ortiz, opened the Olathe restaurant, at 16411 W. 119th St., in late 2021.
“With the new airport, Zona Rosa is going to go up in terms of business, with all the new traffic coming in,” said Gustavo Ruiz, manager and Jaquelinne’s husband. “And there’s not a lot of Mexican restaurants in that area.”
Zona Rosa is a 1.1 million-square-foot mixed-use outdoor shopping center at Interstate 29 and Missouri 152.
