Kansas City metro confirms 94 new coronavirus cases, one new death
On Saturday, the Kansas City metro area identified 94 new confirmed cases COVID-19 and and one new death tied to the virus.
Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. and Kansas City and Jackson, Platte and Clay counties in Missouri have confirmed 2,286 cases of the new coronavirus.
The largest increases were seen in Kansas City, where 19 new cases were identified, and Wyandotte County where 45 new cases were found Saturday. Fifteen new cases were found in Johnson County.
In Missouri, 10 new cases were found in Jackson County as well as three in Clay County and two in Platte County.
Johnson County reported one new death.
The increase comes two days after the KC area’s largest single day increase of 104 on Thursday. The area saw 84 new cases on Friday.
As statewide stay-at-home orders are set to expire Sunday, Missouri and Kansas reported a continued increase in cases Saturday.
Kansas has confirmed 4,746 cases and 131 deaths, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The data represented an increase of 297 cases and one death from Friday. About 13.6% of the nearly 35,000 Kansans tested for the virus were infected.
In Missouri, the state reported an increase of 319 cases and 14 deaths Saturday. As of Friday, the state had tested 82,152 residents and had identified 8,152 cases of the rapidly spreading virus. At least 351 people in Missouri have died from the virus according to data from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Local stay-at-home orders in Kansas City and Jackson, Wyandotte and Johnson counties have been extended past the end of statewide orders.
