North Kansas City Iron District launches its season with burgers, brunch, tacos, more

North Kansas City’s Iron District — which features locally owned restaurants and retailers operating out of colorful shipping containers — officially opens for the season on Saturday at 1599 Iron St.

Just in time for the city’s Snake Saturday Parade.

Its food vendors

Landoplenty. Owner and chef Landon Isabell’s vegan Italian menu includes “calamari” made from breaded and deep-fried hearts of palm and blue oyster mushrooms, eggplant lasagna, manicotti with seasoned walnut meat, entree Caesar salads and stuffed shells.

It will have brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays with such items as ricotta pancakes and savory truffle tarts.

MK Eatery & Deli. Owners Monic and Keevon Mitchell are offering deli sandwiches, burgers, fish sandwiches and hot dogs. They also have a location at 3401 E. 72nd St.

Taco Tank. It sells specialty tacos including pork carnitas, along with nachos, roasted sweet corn in a cup (with cotija cheese, chile, lime and its Tank Sauce), churros and Mexican Coca-Cola.

It also has a location in Parlor food hall in the Crossroads.

Vegan Crave Burgers & Bakery. Owner and chef Teeshia Madge offers vegan gourmet burgers. The menu includes the Love Beet (a fresh beet, kale and carrot patty served on a toasted brioche bun with mayonnaise, spring mix, tomato, red onion, American cheese and avocado), along with the Amazing Black Bean (black bean and mixed pepper patty on a toasted brioche bun with mayonnaise, spring mix, tomato, red onion, American cheese and kosher pickles).

Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and includes vegan chicken and waffles, and biscuits and vegan gravy.

The Iron District’s bars are Tiki Huna offering Tiki cocktails and Tapshack offering local beers on tap.

Boheme. Lisa Taylor makes her own soy candles, held inside repurposed wine and alcohol bottles. She also has merchandise by other Kansas City vendors and artists including jewelry, textile art and wall art.

Layne Boutique. Women’s clothing, shoes and accessories.

Say It! Custom Printing. The Lenexa-based company sells Kansas City-themed T-shirts. A portion of its sales go to Unleashed Pet Rescue, and it will sometimes bring in pets for adoption.

Collections by J. Boutique offering women’s apparel, shoes and accessories, opens April 1.

Iron District hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.

Starting in May, hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.

The Saturday before Christmas it will shut down, and then soft openings will start up again in early 2023.
