Looking forward to Whataburger’s grand opening in Johnson County? Here’s what to know
The city of Overland Park is prepping for traffic Monday as eager customers clamor to get their hands on one of Kansas’ first Whataburgers.
Doors to the new Johnson County location will open at 11 a.m. Monday at 8420 W. 135th St.
Overland Park police and private security have been paid by the company to help manage traffic flow on Monday.
All vehicles are being asked to enter 133rd Street eastbound and exit off 133rd Street, according to the city.
After Monday’s grand opening, the Whataburger dining room will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight. The drive-thru will be open 24/7.
Whataburger recently opened its first two locations in the Kansas City metro in Independence and Lee’s Summit.
Both openings brought long lines of vehicles awaiting a taste of the fast food joint based in Texas and backed by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is from the Lone Star State.
The Overland Park location won’t be the last. Other Whataburger locations are expected to open later this year in Blue Springs, Raymore and a second in Overland Park.
In the long-term, Whataburger franchise partner KMO Burger, which includes Mahomes as a partner, plans to open 30 locations from Wichita to St. Joseph. Though most will be concentrated in the Kansas City metro.
