Why has Kansas City Hurts Donut been closed for weeks? Company offers an explanation
Hurts Donut Co. playfully says it is open 25/8 a week.
But fans of the Ward Parkway Center store just want it to open its regular hours.
Since early August a sign has been posted on the front door: “We are temporarily closed for restaffing. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to reopen soon.”
The Springfield-based chain has not responded to emails or phone calls concerning the location.
In a statement Friday, officials with Ward Parkway Center said: “As with many businesses encountering staffing issues, Hurts Donut temporarily closed on August 6 to work on addressing the issue. Unfortunately, operational issues continued and Hurts remains closed. Ward Parkway is actively working with the Hurts Donut corporate office to reopen as soon as possible. We look forward to sharing updates about Hurts reopening plans soon.”
Hurts Donut is a round-the-clock operation serving dozens of doughnut flavors such as Fruity Pebbles, maple bacon and Cotton Candy.
It opened in Ward Parkway Center, 8809 State Line Road, in mid-August 2018.
The name comes from the old-time joke of asking someone if they want a Hurts Donut. If they say yes, they get a punch on the arm followed by a “Hurts, don’t it.”
