After just 3 1/2 years in south Kansas City’s Red Bridge Shopping Center, Blue Moose Bar & Grill has closed.

KC Hopps, owners of Blue Moose, said Tanner’s Bar & Grill will open in the spot at 11134 Holmes Road later this year. But the location will continue to be managed and operated by KC Hopps restaurant management group, the leaseholder for the space.

It also is expanding the covered patio, increasing the size of the bar and opening up the space so the bar will join a new stage area for live music and other entertainment.

In a statement, Ed Nelson, president of KC Hopps, said: “We are excited for this change in concept and to work with the Tanner’s group. We believe it is a better fit for the center.”

According to Red Bridge officials, Blue Moose opened in March 2018.

“This is a license agreement store so they are going to run it. We will work closely with them to make sure there is the consistent product and atmosphere as the other locations,” said Matt Brentano, Tanner’s managing partner. “It was an opportunity to add another location to the Missouri side. We loved Waldo.”

The Waldo Tanner’s closed in 2018.

Menu items include chicken sandwiches, steaks, street tacos, burnt end nachos, grilled mahi mahi, chicken and waffles, and Mediterranean power bowls. Tanner’s has daily food and drink specials, carryout and delivery.

The new Red Bridge location will have more than 50 HD TVs, karaoke nights, band nights, and a game room with a bar, two pool tables, jukebox, dart boards and arcade games. There also will be a children’s game area.

The first Tanner’s opened in 1985 in Lenexa. It now has eight area locations and several others owned by franchisees in Nebraska and Wisconsin.
