Update: Are you ready to watch Chiefs in the Super Bowl at home? Get food, retail deals

When the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Super Bowl LV on Sunday, more than 185 million fans are expected to tune in.

But with COVID-19 cases surging, the traditional celebrations are expected to be much smaller this year. According to a recent survey of 7,882 adults by the National Retail Federation, just 28% say they will be throwing or attending a party, or watch the game in a bar, the lowest number since the organization began its Super Bowl survey in 2008.

Those celebrating plan to spend $74.55 on average, for a total of $13.9 billion nationwide, compared with total spending of $17.2 billion in 2020.

What’s most important to viewers? 43% said the game, 22% said the commercials and 16% of those surveyed said the halftime show.

Area restaurants and retail shops are rolling out some specials to make it easier to celebrate at home.
