Leawood updates: New retail, fitness centers, day spa. And a restaurant closing?

Leawood’s sister shopping centers, Town Center Crossing and Town Center Plaza, have lost a couple of tenants recently, but they have added some new ones and more are coming.

The La Bodega sign is off the facade of the Leawood restaurant and it is no longer listed in Town Center Crossing’s directory. Calls are being transferred to the Southwest Boulevard location.

In a statement, owner James Taylor said, “Leawood, like many restaurants during the pandemic, (is) temporarily closed.” He declined further comment.

La Bodega Tapas & Lounge opened at 4311 W. 119th St. in late 2010.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams opened a 10,000-square-foot flagship store in Town Center Crossing, 4563 W. 119th St., in mid-2015. The store recently closed. Officials with the North Carolina-based retailer did not return phone calls or emails seeking comment on the closing.

In a statement, landlord Washington Prime Group said: “As for the closing of La Bodega and Mitchell Gold-Bob Williams, it provides an opportunity to bring new tenants to Town Center Crossing. Our leasing team is in discussions with potential new tenants to fill the space and we will announce plans when we are able.”

A showroom for high-tech stationary bike company Peloton opened at 4521 W. 119th St. in November. A day spa is scheduled to open in Town Center Crossing this year.

Town Center Plaza added Dry Goods, a women’s clothing and apparel store owned by Von Maur, 5040 W. 119th St., Suite 400, in November. X-Golf, a high-end, indoor golf simulator entertainment and bar-restaurant concept, is scheduled to open in the spring. AKT, a full body workout that combines different fitness techniques, including dance, also is scheduled to open in the spring at 5033 W. 117th St. First Ascent Climbing & Fitness plans to open this year.
