Update: Brick + Mortar now plans to open on June 7.

After taking over the former Tanner’s Bar and Grill space late last year, California-based Broseph’s Restaurant Group is gearing up to open Brick + Mortar.

The “elegant-casual” restaurant is scheduled to debut on June 5.

Brick + Mortar will be open daily serving lunch and dinner with brunch on Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant at 7425 Broadway will seat 70 in the dining room and 65 in the bar and lounge area. The smoking deck on the back also will be renovated with new high-top tables.

Tanner’s Bar and Grill had been a Waldo mainstay for more than a quarter of a century.

Broseph’s also purchased Chappell’s restaurant and sports museum in North Kansas City in mid-2018.

Broseph’s co-owner, Travis Lester, relocated to Kansas City with his wife, Gina, from Santa Monica, California, where Broseph’s is based. The couple had their first child, Sofia, in March. Lester had attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, and played baseball for the Gorillas.

Lester couldn’t be reached for comment.

Broseph Restaurant Group also has a Brick + Mortar restaurant in Santa Monica, but the owners said the Waldo menu will be unique to Kansas City.

Jim Chappell, owner of Chappell's Restaurant and Sports Museum at 323 Armour Road in North Kansas City, gives a tour of his establishment, which houses Chappell's massive collection of sports memorabilia.
