Meet several Black business owners in the Kansas City area: a partnership between The Kansas City Star and Black Kansas City Magazine.

Today, we are announcing a unique and historic partnership in an effort to bring our communities together and celebrate Black-owned businesses in the Kansas City area.
The Kansas City Star and Black Kansas City Magazine (formerly Minority Success) have joined forces to produce a one-of-a-kind, Black Kansas City Holiday Marketplace Guide that spotlights hundreds of local businesses and business owners.
It’s full of entrepreneurial spirit and stories that inspire and reach across our metro area.
In this ground-breaking, 16-page special edition, you’ll find an impressive list of local businesses to support from Black Kansas City Magazine, along with profiles from The Star about people who are bringing their dreams to life — dreams that you can share in.
You’ll read about creators, chefs, owners, inventors — people like:
Kay Clark of KC’s Wing Bar, and how friends loved her wings so much, she launched a food truck.
Joshua Lewis, an entrepreneur trying to reinvent the urban nightlife culture into a safe, inclusive environment for all.
Alesha Bowman, the owner of Unleshed+, a boutique where she sells plus-size clothing and encourages positive body image.
Marcus Watson, a car dealer on Prospect Avenue who has made a niche selling to Black buyers who don’t always feel comfortable at big lots.
Wayne Hubbard and Candice Price, the creators of “Urban American Outdoors,” a TV show where they tear down perceptions that people of color aren’t connected to nature.
Stacey Hardman of KC Girl on the Move. She goes live on Facebook every week to demonstrate a recipe and urge fans to take charge of their health.
And Vanessa Faller, who has been inventing products for decades, most notably, Color-N-Wash foam mats that can be used over and over by creative kids.
For far too long, organizations like ours have not worked together to showcase the full richness of our entire community.
