A two-vehicle crash Saturday night on Ward Parkway left one person dead and two others seriously injured, Kansas City police said.

Officers were called to the crash scene just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday at West 67th Terrace and Ward Parkway, Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email.

The driver of a Volkswagen Passat was heading north on Ward Parkway, toward West 67th Terrace. Meanwhile, the driver of a GMC Terrain SUV, which had been stopped at a stop sign, pulled westbound into the intersection.

The two vehicles collided and the SUV flipped over, hitting a light pole, police said.

A female passenger in the back of the SUV was thrown from the vehicle, Drake said. The victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was taken to the hospital where she died soon after.

The driver and second passenger in the SUV were hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. The driver and the passenger in the car were not injured.

This is the 21st fatal crash in Kansas City this year.
