We’re on a mission to find the best boy or girl in the Kansas City area, and we need your help.
After we put out a call in August for some of the cutest dogs around, readers delivered. More than 50 adorable faces were sent in, and they’ve already brought lots of delight around The Star newsroom.
One thing we’ve discovered, though: Beauty is more than skin (or fur) deep. In addition to photos, many dog owners have been sharing adorable, heartwarming and emotional tidbits about their canine companions. We can’t fit them all in our poll itself, so we’ll share a few tidbits here:
- Sophie was originally adopted to help her owner grief her brother’s death. Now, Sophie works for a hospice service. “She has a lot of love to give.”
Willow is “full of snuggles and love.”
- Peaches’ owner wrote a whole poem about her. Among the lines: “Though once she ate her brother’s cake/Her charm erases each mistake.”
Honey Bear “communicates in snorts.”
- Mac ‘N’ Cheese has a lot of great attributes, including “his utter love of all KC people, dogs, kids, and of course, exploring the city!!”
Devin is blind, but “sees with his heart.”
- Sydney was rescued from a breeder is having to “learn how to be a dog,” his owner said. “He’s made leaps and bounds and we love him very much.”
Needless to say, there’s a lot to love in these pets submitted from around the metro. We’ll share more cute tidbits as we go along.
But now it’s time to narrow down the field. Of the 50+ submissions, we’re cutting it down to 20 dogs for the next round. Star subscribers can vote as many times as they want on as many dogs as they want. Voting runs from Tuesday, Sept. 17, to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23.
In the poll below, there are four separate lists of dogs. You can choose between one and five dogs on each question, then hit submit at the bottom.
We’ll launch the next round of voting Tuesday, Sept. 24. And don’t worry, cat lovers: Your turn is coming soon.
